Since 1890 there have been bicycles with auxiliary motor, but in Sweden it was only in the 1920s as they were a hit. This success was due to a new law which came into effect which meant that motorcycles weighing less than 50 kg, were exempt and that the driver is no longer needed to have a license. The obligation to register the vehicle was not. A new law came in 1927, however, when the weight of the scooter was lowered to 45 kg, of which the engine could only weigh 20 kg and moped be equipped with pedals. 1939 was once again a new law.
